House Judiciary Committee Leaves Bipartisan Concerns on Patent System Overhaul Unaddressed
Innovation Alliance calls for substantive changes on the floor
Washington, D.C. - Following today's full House Judiciary Committee mark-up of The Patent Reform Act of 2007, the Innovation Alliance issued the statement below:
"We are disappointed with the lack of real progress made by the House Judiciary Committee on addressing key issues of concern shared by several Committee Members from both parties. As passed today, the Patent Reform Act will significantly erode the patent protections that have driven America's innovation leadership. Weakening the patent system will dampen innovation, stifle entrepreneurship and capital investment, and curtail future job growth. Clearly, that's a price America can't afford to pay.
"The Committee leadership appeared intent on voting the bill out today despite widespread and vocal opposition from universities, venture capital, manufacturing, research, biotechnology, nanotechnology and emerging-tech companies. "
